Hot cops try out flip flop swap

— Winchester officers show off bizarre footwear
— Onlooker: 'They'd struggle to chase a criminal'

Flip flop cops in Winchester

COPS made the most of the soaring temperatures yesterday — by swapping their usual boots for bright pink flip flops.

Sergeant Richard Holland and PCSO Rebecca Williams showed off the bizarre footwear as they patrolled in 19°C heat.
They were showing their support for “Street Pastors” in Winchester, Hants, who help drunken revellers on nights out.
The pastors — dubbed “the flip flop brigade” — hand out flat footwear to girls struggling to get home in high heels.
But the officers’ switch to unconventional footwear didn’t impress everyone.
One onlooker said: “They would struggle to keep up with a criminal during a chase.”
A Hampshire police spokesman said: “Our officers tried the flip flops on for size but will be sticking to their trusty boots for patrols.”
